A simple and reliable air fryer chicken breast recipe that yields juicy, tender chicken without the need for a meat thermometer. Perfect for quick weeknight dinners with basic ingredients and minimal fuss.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Chicken breasts, boneless and skinless (6-8 ounces each)
  • 12 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme or Italian seasoning (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat each chicken breast dry with paper towels. If unevenly thick, pound to an even ¾-inch thickness.
  2. In a mixing bowl, drizzle olive oil over chicken breasts. Sprinkle garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and dried thyme evenly. Coat thoroughly and let sit while preheating the air fryer.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  4. Place chicken breasts in a single layer in the air fryer basket with space between each piece.
  5. Air fry at 375°F for 10 minutes. Flip breasts using tongs and cook for another 6-8 minutes until juices run clear and texture is firm but springy.
  6. Remove chicken and let rest loosely covered with foil for 5 minutes.
  7. Optionally, squeeze fresh lemon juice over the chicken before serving.

Notes

Preheating the air fryer is essential for a crispy outside and even cooking. Use even thickness chicken breasts for uniform cooking. Avoid piercing the meat to keep juices locked in. Rest chicken after cooking to maximize juiciness. Adjust cooking time slightly based on air fryer model and chicken size.
