A fast and easy chocolate mug cake made in the microwave in just 2 minutes, perfect for a quick solo treat with a moist, fluffy texture and rich chocolate flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tablespoons (30g) all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons (50g) granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (10g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3 tablespoons (45ml) milk
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) vegetable oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate chips or chunks (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a microwave-safe mug, combine 4 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, 4 tablespoons of granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Stir thoroughly to break up any lumps, about 1 minute.
  2. Add 3 tablespoons of milk, 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, and 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the mug. Stir well until the batter is smooth and consistent, about 30 seconds.
  3. If desired, stir in 1 tablespoon of chocolate chips or chunks.
  4. Microwave on high power for 1 minute and 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Start checking at 1:30 to avoid overcooking. The cake should rise and look set but still slightly moist on top.
  5. Let the cake sit for 1-2 minutes to finish cooking and firm up. Be careful as the mug will be hot.
  6. Enjoy warm, optionally topped with ice cream or caramel sauce.

Notes

Adjust microwave time based on your microwave’s power; start with 1 minute 30 seconds and reduce if needed. Do not overcook to avoid dryness or rubbery texture. For gluten-free, substitute flour with gluten-free blend. For dairy-free, use plant-based milk and neutral oil. Optional add-ins include peanut butter swirl, fruit, or coffee granules.
