This Spooky Hocus Pocus Sisters Themed Cocktail Punch is a visually stunning, simple-to-make Halloween drink that creates a smoking, bubbling cauldron effect with dry ice. It’s a crowd-pleasing sweet-tart punch that can be made with or without alcohol.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups pineapple juice (unsweetened)
  • 3 cups white cranberry juice
  • 1 cup lemon juice (fresh squeezed preferred)
  • 1 cup simple syrup (homemade or store-bought)
  • 2 cups cold water
  • 2 tablespoons butterfly pea flower tea (loose or 4 tea bags)
  • 1 block food-grade dry ice
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs for garnish
  • Edible glitter or luster dust (optional)
  • 1 ½ cups vodka (optional, or 1 cup white rum)

Instructions

  1. Steep the butterfly pea flower tea: Bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Pour it over the butterfly pea flower tea in a small bowl or heatproof measuring cup. Let it steep for 10 minutes, then remove the tea leaves or bags. Let the tea cool completely to room temperature.
  2. Mix the punch base: In a large pitcher, combine the pineapple juice, white cranberry juice, lemon juice, simple syrup, and cold water. Stir well.
  3. Add the color-changing element: Slowly pour the cooled butterfly pea flower tea into the punch base while stirring gently. The liquid will turn from yellow to deep purple. If using edible glitter, add it now and stir gently.
  4. Chill thoroughly: Place the pitcher in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or up to overnight.
  5. Prepare the dry ice: Using tongs or heatproof gloves, carefully break the dry ice block into smaller pieces—about the size of a golf ball. Do this right before serving.
  6. Assemble the punch bowl: Pour the chilled punch into your serving bowl or cauldron. Using tongs, carefully add 2-3 pieces of dry ice to the punch.
  7. Add the alcohol (optional): If making the adult version, stir in the vodka or rum now.
  8. Garnish and serve: Float fresh rosemary sprigs on top. Ladle the punch into cups, making sure no pieces of dry ice end up in anyone’s glass.
  9. Maintain the effect: As the fog dissipates (after 15-20 minutes), add another piece of dry ice to the bowl. Store remaining dry ice in an insulated container.

Notes

Never put dry ice in a sealed container. Always handle dry ice with tongs or gloves. The punch must be well-chilled before adding dry ice for the best fog effect. The color change from butterfly pea tea is pH-sensitive; too much lemon juice can turn it pink. The punch base can be made up to 2 days ahead.
